Maybe, maybe not. I think it tells us more about competition in the US market than anything else. US carriers are primarily competing against each other, and only secondarily with other carriers. AA is more concerned about what UA, CO, etc... do than what VS, NZ, etc.. do. They know that they don't offer the same kind of service, but they also know that their customer base is primarily in the US and primarily flying US carriers.
