AC is doing the exact same thing WN has been doing for years (though WN doesn't apply a change fee, just collects the fare difference). Maybe that's the direction AC is taking (though WN still gives out some small snacks?)

Exactly what I did the last time I tried to go on an earlier flight. I recall I had more than 3 hours (came off my 2nd AZ LCA-YYZ with lots of time) and had considerably more than the glass of wine you had. IIRC my booked flight may have been overbooked too (flight I wanted to go on was open) but I wasn't about to give up my seat for a paltry $200 in coupons.
