I am arranging a trip to a meeting to New York to be paid by a sponsor . Full J fares on UA are now around AUD12000 and net D class ones close to AUD 8700.
I really feel embarassed to ask for this amount especially as it involves 2 travellers.
The best alternative I've found so far , maximizing travel on * A is with ANA but that involves overnight stays both ways in Japan.(AUD 4500)
One other option is a RTW ticket combining CX and UA.This is worth AUD6500 and seems more reasonable. I can travel BNE -SYD- JFK-DEL-Hong Kong-BNE with only the last segment on CX.( I understand that the AN connecting sectors are allowed)
Are there options I've missed?
