I'm sorry, but this is a pretty baseless assertion. There are as many reasons to take Greyhound as there are reasons to avoid it. My last Greyhound trip (last month) was between two cities that were not connected by either rail or plane. It was a two-hour bus ride for $30, and it met my needs exactly.
On the other hand, I don't consider Greyhound to be an option when traveling cross-country simply because the time involved outweighs the cost-savings.
In other words, I weigh my best options for each travel opportunity and act accordingly. Yes, I'm sure there are people on Greyhound who meet your description (though I don't see what paying in cash has to do with it, since you can do that just as easily with Amtrak). And as for not wanting to show ID, well, they
could have sinister reasons for that. Or maybe they just don't like being poked and prodded at the airport (in sock feet, no less).
