Look, go back and reread my post, I did not say that lies were told just that the truth from NW was not forthcoming. Over the last two months the status quo of Mesaba and Pinnacle cancellations has been ridiculous.
For those originating passegers on mainline in MSP who have been spared the debacle, consider yourself fortunate. When the first bad weather hit NW's strategy of Mesaba/Pinnacle cancellations became readilly apparent to me and I adjusted my plans accordingly (although I did incurr a change fee).
My point is, contrary to a few vociferous posters on this board who wanted to pin all the cancellations on weather, now at the end we have Doug Steenland stating that the status quo was in fact due to weather and the runway construction. Nice to be vindicated by NW's CEO.
In hindsight, a press realease to customers would have been nice. I even wrote one up for what I would have liked to have seen as follows:
Hypothetical NW Press announcement – Beginning of August 2007
On 13 August 2007, One of Minneapolis Airport’s primary parallel runways will undergo construction for approximately two months and will be unavailable for traffic. During this time NW will endeavor to maintain a normal operating schedule. However, NW customers should be aware that during this period, inclement weather may cause irregular operations and cancellations due to MSP airport effectively operating on one runway during these periods of adverse weather. Customers who are transiting through or originating through the Minneapolis hub during this period will be permitted to modify their travel without incurring the usual change fee – at NW we appreciate your business and your choosing NW.
