I live in Denver and have to say my favorite is Breck. The slopes are very nice and its also a nice little town.
I dont know your budget, but here is a very nice place to stay. You can ski up to the hotel and walk to the town. (

As far as the altitude - dont worry. If your really unused to it, you might get a headache the first day or two. You'd have to be very out of shape for it to hurt your vacation.
If your rolling in cash, you can always visit Vail or Aspen as well!
