So, I flew US Air for the first time in a long time last night. Boy, I was not impressed. I figured, ok, it's *A, so at least I am getting my MP miles out of this. And, none of the legs are terribly long (DEN-CLT-RDU), so, yeah, I'll miss E+, but how bad can it get?
Well, I went to check in online yesterday, and was told that I couldn't because of a schedule change, so I needed to call US to get it straightened out. No big deal I thought. Frustrating, but UA occasionally requires phone calls before allowing pax to make itin. changes onlines, too. Turns out, there was no schedule change. US just didn't like the fact that my return flight (RDU-DEN direct, on Thursday, on United) was waitlisted. Scratch that, I wasn't waitlisted for the flight, I was waitlisted for an upgrade. Well, since they don't do a u/g waitlist, their system couldn't handle the waitlist designation, and wouldn't let me check in. Of course, they didn't tell me that. They just told me there was a problem with my UA reservation. I politely, but firmly, said that there was no problem, and finally got a supervisor who "took care of the problem". I went to check the status of my u/g a little while ago to find out if it had cleared yet (miracles do happen). OOPS - not waitlisted anymore. US had cleared my waitlisted u/g so that I could check into my flight.
Since it's a CR-1 that I am trying to use to upgrade, it probably didn't affect my chances to u/g, since it would have cleared immediately if space was available, however, had I not been (as BJ puts it) obsessive about my upgrade, I might not have even known until check-in, so I might have missed the biz traveler that changes flights earlier in the week or whatever else.
Is it worth complaining? And if so, to which airline?
