My partner does it all the time. Her daughter is 5 months old, has flown 13 segments in J/F in the last 3 months (inclding MIA-GRU), and is generally less noisy and disruptive than many self-important business types carrying on loudly about their latest big deals.
Children two years of age and older must travel in a purchased seat, at an adult fare. OP said the child was 2-3 years old.
