FWIW, I stayed here maybe 4 times in the last year, always got a nice, high floor room, never got a suite upgrade. Three times were coincident with conventions, one was a weekend.

Rooms were nice, staff was always professional (certainly not rude, somewhere between nominal and friendly), concierge was helpful when asked for the nearest BART station (not a demanding question, BTW the answer is Montgomery St.).

I go back when the rate is much better than the W SFO, if they are close I head for the W.
