AMEX covered for everything except $100. It was some admin fees and some other fees. I think I could have fought those but was too lazy to. The rental was for 2 weeks so $100 saves me more than if I bought LDW for $15 a day. Plus, I felt bad for the damage because I caused it myself.

If you were a memberof this community longer, you would know that one did earn FFN stays with AMEX when the program was first started. Moreover, PLN stays also earned FFN credit.
The rules you are quoting have been instituted for the last several years, not since time immemorial. As I said, if you did a search you would find out otherwise.
Your repetition of the present rules has no application to my original statement, although it is helpful to repeat them for the unwary.
Finally, although you could interpret the words pay for the rental how you wish, had AMEX disagreed with you, you still would be SOL.
