Cannot extend BTT, but we'll pay out $400 in cash
I have to say I'm amazed at the lack of logic with what transpired this evening at OAK.
Mechanical on OAK-SEA on a BTT, causing a definite misconnect, AS supervisor offers to protect on B6 via check for $400, the cost of the one-way walk-up fare.
I offer to save AS the money if they just void this BTT and reissue a new one (with a new expiration date), as this one is expiring in a few weeks. This is a discretionary trip, and it can be done at another time.
OAK Supervisor rejects that offer, saying they can extend a BTT for 30 days, no more. Phone Supervisor also holds firm on the 30-day extension offer.
Seeing as this was going nowhere, I offered to fly to SEA, overnight, and continue on the next morning. Supervisor threatened to note the record denying a hotel room since B6 offer was given.
So, to recap:
- Option 1 REJECTED by AS: defer your BTT liability so it can be used next year.
- Option 2 REJECTED by AS: pay for a hotel night in SEA (probably $100 or so)
- Option 3 RECOMMENDED by AS: Take $400 in cash out of the AS coffers, and hand it to JetBlue, a competitor.
Needless to say, JetBlue got AS's money this evening.
It seems AS preferred to go with the most costly option. Am I missing something here?
