We are in San Francisco and have over the last many years flown with Virgin Atlantic to London or United, prefer Virgin. In any case London has always been the cheapest gateway city and is also so much fun with tons and tons to do and a great place to reacclimate for a day or so and then pick up Easy Jet or something similar to anywhere for next to nothing. But at this point, London is not looking that great price wise, and I see that Aer Lingus is far cheaper heading into Dublin, though I am leery about flying that far on sort of a LCC, with all of the misery that can ensue with that.
