I don't visit the US often, but when I did earlier this year, some airports that I've been before started saying EVERY aircraft must be towed to the gate. In previous years, that wasn't the case.
Was it simply due to increased traffic on the tarmac?
It could also be that the airport is under construction, and there are debris on the tarmac... the jets can blow some of the debris pretty hard (and dangerous).
To avoid the risk, they tow the planes.
Either that, or Tony Soprano got a new contract at LGA...
