Not only do airlines periodically "raise the bar" (20K to 25K, imposing Sat nite stay restrictions, etc) but airfare and consumer electronics are one of the few things that regularly undergo deflation.

20 years ago I used to pay $200 RT Northeast to Florida. Today $125 routinely. Deflation in nominal fares = deflation of your miles' value.
