Multiple Names on RR travel - why separate PNRs?

If you book a RR reservation with 2 or more people, WN always splits the reservation into separate PNRs for each person. This occurs even if all RR tickets come from the same account and are booked simultaneously.

What this means is that you have to go through separate checkins for each person when you do OLCI. In the old system, it didn't really matter much, since you were all likely to be in the same boarding group. However, in the new system, it is likely that you will not get consecutive numbers and multiple people traveling together will not be able to board with each other, including children (over the minimum age for families).

I realize this isn't a problem of enormous magnitude, but it is definitely an annoyance that could easily be rectified. Does anyone know why WN splits everyone into a separate PNR for RR reservations?
