Indeed. Case in point: I was booked BOS-ORD-LHR on AA this past February (to meet the quoted poster at the annual London Presidents' Day Do, among other things). The BOS-ORD leg was cancelled due to weather, as was the first BOS-LHR non-stop of the day - which overloaded the second one big time. The AA EXP desk (I was EXP at the time) rebooked me on the second non-stop and gave me an op-up to F, before I even knew my originally booked flight was cancelled, without my needing to talk to anyone. They had no way of knowing how upset I might have been; all they knew was my AAdvantage level. It was enough.
