It's easy to be wise after the fact, but that gets away from the primary point which is: we shouldn't have to worry about things being stolen.

If the airlines suffered because of theft then the practice would be cleaned up rapidly. They don't suffer because we accept pilferage as a matter of course and take out insurance to cover it.
