I used to ask for the points as a matter of certainty on all stays. It got to the point where the 500 Plat points were posting about 40% of the time - I even made sure that I checked the paperwork rather than just telling the clerk. All of the other points posted, but for whatever reason, the 500 bonus points were a crap shoot.
I have started asking for a room service delivery this year, and it is amazing what a better deal it is than the 500 points. I have only had one time where there was no delivery and the front desk clerk offered the $100 compensation.
My understanding, to the OP's question is that your inconvenience is worth $25.
