On closer read one may notice that the main point of my original question was to better understand the upgrade process....as evidenced by:

I received two emails (one for each leg) showing a Certificate Number and that the Miles were Deducted.

Does it mean that my upgrades are confirmed? Or just waitlisted. This is my first attempt at a Star upgrade so I’m not sure of the ins and outs.

Seem simple enough but never mind, I'll call and move on.
