I might be wrong but I would assume that BA will not credit flights without confirmation either and during this time I have been able to reclaim my BAEC miles easily.
Actually, some time ago I entered the date wrong but all the other information was correct (ticket number, fight number, name, airports); all the other flights submitted at the same time were credited but this wrongly entered flight was rejected. And then credited next day after I submitted it again with the correct date. So I would assume BA is able to do some kind of checks.
Maybe BA has some better access to AY systems compared to AA?
