I don't know why this should be so surprising. RCC cards won't get you into *G lounges -- only your *G card will. In situations where another carrier can't actually read the card, I think it is only fair that they require the card itself.

That said, it would be great if systems were coordinated enough so that it wasn't necessary to carry the cards..
