At the end of the day, people do miss flights, and I think airlines should decide how lucrative they can be with someones misfortune.
easyJet seem to have made a good policy, here it is:
"No worries if you miss your flight We understand how frustrating it is to miss a flight. That’s why you can catch the next available flight for a flat charge of just £35 if you turn up at the airport within two hours of your original flight’s scheduled departure time."
I think it is very fair and of course possible if seats are available. If easyJet as a lo-co carrier can manage this then why can't KLM be a little bit more flexible (especially to elites). I know KLM's flexible fares allow rebooking at 50 EUR or 75 EUR payment, which isn't so bad. But, you have to rebook in the same booking class or pay the difference towards a higher fare - which then makes it MUCH more expensive.
If easyJet can do it, why can't KLM - they are just about a lo-co carrier in every other way now, and if rumours be true it won't be long before AF rebrands KLM as some sort of French Transavia.... What a delight!
