We could start a thread of flyertalkers who bought all the other years and whether they bought last year or not. Extrapolate. Etc. Keeping us busy until our fate is cast.
Don't forget, though, that UA is about to lose a bunch of C seats when it upgrades its fleet. Then there may be more disgruntled 1Ks, and it wouldn't be totally crazy to try to nip some of that in the bud now. But that extra revenue must be hard to pass up, and is a filter catching some extra customers who will be more likely to fly the next year.
