Some great advice above.... IMO its a coin toss. The best parts of Palermo are better (or at least equal) to Recoleta so I think I would decide based on the specs. of the apartment and on the economics.

Can you or someone else can point out the "best parts of Palermo"... I want to check them all out. I always stayed in hotels in Recoleta, went to some nice restaurants in Palermo by taxi, but found it rather "dark" only steps away from those famous restaurants, and took a taxi back to Recoleta. I found - as a tourist - Recoleta more appealing, more walkable... a little more like Paris, small outdoor cafes, etc. I may have missed the nicest places in Palermo .. I know, Palermo is large..
