For the few cities in the US that are close enough to the UK for a day flight to be possible (BOS, IAD, NYC), the corresponding night flights are brutally short. I swear by BA238 coming back from BOS, whereas all my colleagues take the 212 or the 214. I get a whole day at the office the day before my departure. Anyone taking the 212 has to leave just after lunch, and they generally don't get back to the UK office until the afternoon once they've had a kip! Likewise the 214, sure, come into the office and sit at your desk drooling if you like...

The day flights allow you to sleep in a proper bed both nights, you can work on the plane if you want/need to, and make jetlag management much easier.
