Bronx Moves

See the current edition of Exit, the gay paper. Here is a link: http://www.exit.co.za/frmArticle.aspx?art=65

Bronx is moving to the 'wrong' side of Somerset, but I wouldn't worry. I try to go to Anatoli's (great Turkish restaurant) every time I am there.

I haven't been since March, so I don't know from my own experience whether Bronx has actually opened, but Bar Code (the leather place) is open, as is, by word from friends, the Loft Lounge, which is supposed to be quite nice. New Bronx is the old Club 55 at Somerset and Napier, and Loft is just a few doors down from the new Bronx, also on Napier. There is some other new gay oriented development in that block as well. Old Bronx and Cruz (which is gone permanently) are being replaced by an extension of the Cape Quarter development, which is quite nice.

Finally, depending on when you are there, there are parties at Roosevelt. Gay ones are called Juice. Local folks will know. I wouldn't try walking from de Waterkant (where Bronx is) to Bree street (where Roosevelt is). It isn't far, but crossing Buitengragt (sp?) at night can be a bit dodgy.

Lastly, Jo'burg and Pretoria have very lively gay night lives, and are interesting places too. Just like many other cities, gay places tend to be at/near the less pleasant neighborhoods, and security can be an issue, but they are very fun. Security concerns for most tourists are way overblown in SA in my opinion. Go and enjoy. Just be street smart and trust your hotel/b&b hosts.
