So even if you worked for $5/hr job for two days you would more than cover the difference.
Your argument only works if sitting on Greyhound is as unpleasant/stressful/unrelaxing as a minimum wage job. I enjoy going places for the sake of it, and can read/look at scenery/talk to people while on public transport, so I'm at least as happy on a train/bus (even Greyhound) as I would be sitting at home, and certainly happier than I would be doing menial labour. One can also note that a transcontinental Greyhound gives you a place to sleep for two days, so you save on hostel costs. Obviously different people will have different perspectives on this, but your logic certainly doesn't apply to all travellers.
