Now that is interesting. I just read (like, yesterday!) the opposite in one of our union newsletters. There a UA planner said that because of a huge pilot training backlog for the A319/A320, the 727 retirement schedule would be "adjusted" accordingly, which I took to mean slowed down until they can get more Airbuses on line.
