I got called out one time, similar to #7...had to get to MCO and there were non-stops, but I decided to fly to SEA for the weekend prior (on my own dime to visit family) and then take a convoluted route to MCO from there. My company was wondering why my fare was close to $900 (and included a Y-UP for the mid con segment) and the rest of the people flying from the west coast were $500...
