Well this didn't work for me, I crashed to silver with something like 240 TP for the year because I did drop BA completely. I had no issue with the drop to silver until I started to find out that lots of other Golds had been renewed at a similar or even lower level of TP.

My solution is to shift to stop playing the game and shift to EuroGold. I acquired enough TP in 3 months to qualify for EuroGold and now just need to shift my "address" to Madrid. I can also fly with BA a lot less than I would if based in the UK (which suits me well) and I have come to the conclusion that the UK Amex and Tesco promos are no great loss for me (I forgot to spend my last 2 for 1).

The end result of my fall back to silver will have been 3 and a bit months slight downgrade in lounge availability in London and a significant reduction in my likely future travel with BA. I would never have seriously considered this had BA not downgraded me to silver and I am now rather thankful for this.
