The gap between 50k and 100k is large, and there aren't many marginal benefits along the way (save for e-500s, of course). There are obviously the benefits of flying UA as a 1P, but little else is earned (75K choices notwithstanding, I suppose).
As is obvious from my sidebar, I'm now accumulating my miles in a different program, but when I was a 1P, I would have agreed with this. If, say, you are going to fly 25-35K more miles above 1P, you could go for the Elite Choice at 75K, or you could stick your miles in another carrier's program (like one of the SkyTeam airlines) to boost your travel experience with them.
