My question is if that is the case... then those people who choose to check-in at the airport are in disadvantage as this is a new list compared to when the booking was made or from your upgrade window.

I always check-in 24 hours earlier from my flights but this time I chose to do it at the airport. When I reached the gate there were 3 unassigned seats in FC and I was 4th on the list. Now these 3 seats were available at my upgrade window three days earlier but were not assigned. Anyway, a few minutes before boarding the computer assigned those 3 seats to individuals before me. I asked the GA if he could tell me the status of those people and why I was the 4th on the list and he just said that the last one was gold and he checked in yesterday so his name was put on the airport list yesterday.

So in other words if you havent cleared at your upgrade window, the game starts over and it specifically goes by time, fare and status in any given order.

I made platinum on that flight sitting in economy but I didnt have the least remorse about not upgrading due to the joys of reaching my status. But as plat if the same thing happened then I will certainly be pissed off.
Um, I don't believe so.... I've checked in on-line before travelling companion with higher status (back when I was GM) and they checked in at airport and snagged the upgrade. I've also had others check-in online and I've checked in at the airport as PM and gotten the upgrade (or been higher on the list)... this has been in the past couple of weeks. Sounds like the GA didn't understand the process for upgrades which is status, fare class and then time of purchase as the tie breaker. Check-in doesn't play any role in the lottery.
