I also thought that Avis did not award FF miles for off-airport rentals, until I learned from a thread in the FT Avis forum that Virgin Atlantic miles
do post for such rentals. (And Hilton stays earn 1,000 Virgin miles, compared to the 500 miles that are earned on other airlines.)
