Anyone with RECENT information on Cape Town nightlife?

I was going to take my other half for a very special birthday to Cape Town, and have read wonderful things about it. Even was able to use frequent flyer miles for the tickets.

We want to go for all the great things to see, but we also used Spartacus and information from this forum about how wild the night life is.

Now, I read the very recent totally opposite reviews.

(1) In a response to a February, 2007, New York Times Article about Cape Town and the bar Bronx, one comment says Bronx is closing in March.

"The only gay club left is more a bar - Cruz above Capella in de Waterkant. At the moment there is no gay nightlife to speak of. The "gay strip" that used to rock till early morning is gone. Now you can club at Chrome - so so. Or Rooseveldt - has gay nights occassionally. Or Opium for drunken WASP nights. Manhattan - the gay bar and restaurant still rocks but it too shuts quite early compared to the good old days."

(2) A South African Gay Blog says the following on September 14,2007:

"It was quite a pleasant trip to Cape Town. I did realize however Cape Town isn't all its made out to be! The gay scene is almost not existent there, and its supposed to be the mother city and yet Johannesburg has far more to offer the gay community."

(3) Still another article on February 11, 2007, from a South Africa newspaper says the following:

"Cape Town has long been the undisputed queen of queer with the historical De Waterkant area its heart - but now concerns have been raised that the area is fast being taken over by upmarket business developments and heterosexuals.

Straight businesses are springing up, straight people come to party in the pink village - and they are even snapping up property and moving in, with children in tow, much to the horror of many gay Capetonians.

With gay clubs like Sliver and Rosie's bar having closed down, there are only a handful of venues left in De Waterkant. One of the oldest gay bars, Bronx, is relocating to make way for a shopping centre, but is moving across the road to the old Club 55 venue."

We may still go, but certainly aren't planning to spend NEAR the amount of time in Cape town that we were planning previously.

Has anyone been there VERY recently (last few months)? Can you confirm or deny what is in these articles. All I can find on the web is stuff from a few years ago, and apparently times have changed.

I would certainly appreciate any help that you can provide. Thanks
