These are discussion forums and I think discussion of conflicting viewpoints is one of the things that makes FT a valuable resource. As an immediate example, Helena Handbaskets changed her mind about the advisability of the proposed legislation. She may have done so because she gave more thought to the idea, or she may have been persuaded by some of the ideas expressed here (I'd like to think the latter). Though, obviously, I disagree with iahphx, I think there is value in his presenting his ideas and our presenting ours -- as we say in the mediation biz, as long as there's dialogue there's the potential for movement.
Thanks, PTravel. I'm still kind of new here so I don't really understand too much yet about FlyerTalk. However, another purpose in my post, was to test iahphx's ego. It seems he has a rather large one, seeing that he reponded to my post with this:

I'll speak where I want and when I want on Flyertalk, thank you very much.
Just because you are a mob of self-absorbed folks largely ignorant of the perils of child-rearing, doesn't make you right.
Doesn't he seem a little over inflated about this? I mean, the bill is heavily unlikely to go through Congress, so he's fighting a losing battle.
Plus, maybe he should have a look at a couple of pushback's posts
