While no one debates Concorde was a marvel of engineering (especially considering when it was developed), it seems very debatable (and in my opinion hyperbole) to lay claim to Concorde being the greatest engineering achievement ever. Exaggerating just dimishes the greatness; Concorde was amazing enough to speak for itself. Besides, there are many similarly amazing engineering achievements in all fields of engineering. One must also remember that had it not been so iconic (i.e. had such a limited number, carried such an aire of exclusivity, offer such a rare experience), Concorde may just have been another metal tube with wings. Who knows what would have happened if Concorde became as successful as the 747?

Some even argue Concorde was a partial failure, because the engineering could not overcome the two major obstacles to a more successful Concorde programme: guzzling fuel and making an enormous amount of noise. Although I don't consider those failings really... just limitations.
