So I gave them my SPG Amex, and that worked.
They told me that they wouldn't actually charge my card, just post a security deposit, and when I called Amex to let them know I was out of the country they confirmed that the card was not yet charged (debited? not sure what word to use).
So now I think I don't really have to use the Cap1 card for the rental contract - I can just give them the Cap1 card when I bring the card back and have them charge that.
It seems like I should just use whatever card gives the best insurance for the sake of the contract, and then charge the final bill to my Cap1 MC, right?
So which one will give me better insurance? Anyone know? Or are they roughly the same? In which case I'll just leave the SPG Amex on the contract and switch it later.
thanks for any advice..

I have since
You have an Amex, then sign up for their Premium Car Rental Protection program.

I use my Amex Platinum Rewards card ONLY for car rentals because $19.95 is so little to pay for up to 42 days of PRIMARY collision and comprehensive coverage.
