In general, I was upgraded as a gold quite often in the U.S. and Canada, almost never in Europe, and frequently in Australia. I'm hoping I'll have even more success as a diamond.
Wow, I have found the opposite. Mostly always upgraded on award stays in Europe, UK and Africa (which I find surprising each and every time, but nice since I am ususally on vacation

). Sometimes upgraded in the US (which is mostly business and I don't really care).
David4455, If it is a special occasion, then send a quick email to the hotel and nicely ask if any upgrades are available. It really is the luck of the draw.
