Thanks, this is interesting. It looks like a UK-specific regulation. But to me, the intention to refill the bottle after security is a valid need.

I got an empty 0.5L bottle through security in LHR and MAN on a few occasions in 2007 without any problems. I don't hide empty bottles in the luggage, but get them out together with the freedom bag.
