Getting elite status without wasting points
I recently signed up for BA EC and am going to do some flying that will rack me up more than enough points for silver since I have a European address (400 pts silver, 800 pts gold).
The problem is that I have a number of non-BA Oneworld flights in the near future that will get me lots of points, but not to silver until I take the required four qualifying BA flights.
Here are current planned trips in chronological order:
(1) In October, a complex Asian Oneworld business itinerary that get me 550 points.
(2) Possibility of a LHR-DEL r/t in November in BA WT+ netting me 60 pts, but that one is still 50-50.
(3) In December/January, LHR-BOM r/t on BA Club World, getting me 240 pts.
So the conundrum is that if the November trip happens, come late January and I will achieve silver with 850 pts, of which more than half will vanish when that happens. I have a decent chance of going for gold (given the lower Europe-specific target) so that's would be quite a pity.
Options?
