Companies sharing travel savings / award travel for business use

In reading this topic....

Miles vs Cash... your choice?

It occurs to me to wonder how companies actually account for the savings they share with their employees. Does it show up as a non-performance bonus reported on your W-2?

Also, are there companies who are willing to pay the employee a percentage of the lowest available & "reasonable" fare for business travel if they instead redeem miles from their own FFP account for the business travel instead? This could be lucrative for both the employer and the employee, without the issues discussed in the above topic where the employee may decide that they're better off always making the employee take the cheapest available fare rather than offer the employee a percentage of the savings in flying a $400 Southwest Airlines ticket instead of a $2000 American Airlines ticket.
