I Love Marriott.

I'll be willing to bet that Marriott's occupancy rates are climbing as more and more people learn of this nonsmoking policy. Now if they can institue a similar policy against pets, it will even be better (save for extended stay resorts).

Not to stray too far off-topic, but the only time I've ever run into pets at a Marriott is at one of the extended-stay properties. I don't know if they're
banned from most standard FS Marriott/Renaissance hotels, but I really don't see them often at all.
Extended stay, of course, is another ballgame. I see dogs often at RI, but I guess that comes with the territory...
