Am looking for a comparison between connecting at DFW, ORD, LAX.

Ease of connection order

DFW
ORD

LAX
MIA

Do all of these involve terminal changes? How long does this take?

ORD - yes, but easy. 20-40 minutes for J,F and no checked bags. I've gone from aircraft to lounge in less than 15 minutes many times including last Friday on an arrival from NRT.

DFW - depends on the outbound flight. You arrive in D but may have to take the fast train inside security to A, B, or C. 20-40 minutes for J,F and no checked bags.

LAX - Due to BA's TBIT arrival location, a bit unpleasant. 45-60 minutes depending on the lines at passport control including a walk outside to the next terminal. The lines can be short or long based on the arrival of flights from Mexico and Asia. Its typically best to avoid LAX for TBIT arrivals unless you have another reason to be there.

Where terminal changes are involved, do they all have bag check-in areas in the arriving terminal straight after customs?

Yes in all cases.

How much time should you allow for a BA-AA connection at each of these airports?

Stick to the minimum connection times and you will be fine if your inbound flight is on time.
