Discussing censorship is a bit off reality, because pretty much every R rated movie shown on public IFE is already edited (censored) with scene cuts and language dubs in order to tone it down to basically PG. And even PG or G movies are usually censored ("modified", as they call it) if they contain material such as airplane crashes or just something that doesn't show aviation is a glorious light. For example, BA edited the latest James Bond movie in order to get rid of scenes with Richard Branson, the boss of competitor VS. Airlines will also cut scenes that may be objectionable to certain cultures.

Creating "airline versions" of movies is a lucrative industry, and a German company happens to be a worldwide market leader in this field. So censorship has been in place on airlines since the invention of IFE. Hence, you guys are discussion ADDITIONAL censorship, because pretty much everything you can watch on public IFE today has already been modified and toned down to what the airlines view as the least common denominator (aka what everybody, young and old and from various cultures, can agree on). You'll never see the unedited theatrical version of an R rated movie on public IFE. Heck, you won't even see it on network TV, as they'll have to at least dub so-called "bad language" in order to be allowed to broadcast it over the FCC controlled airwaves.
