I have also had this happen on several ocassions, it is amazing to me also that even with all of the locks in place they have managed to get in at times!
In Marquett, MI I had my room checked out WHILE I STILL NEEDED it, even though it was checked in and paid for days with a credit card. When I called to complain, I was told the MAID checked me out of my room because it didn't look like I used it! I know that story has nothing to do with this topic, but that one still to this day amazes me, they didn't even bother to call me...

Of course, I put on the Do Not Disturb sign, and laze away typing while in bed.
So I'm sitting on the bed with my laptop computer, only half dressed, and suddenly the door opens and a hotel cleaning lady walks in, without so much as a knock or a by your leave. I grab a towel to cover up, and I point out politely that the Do Not Disturb sign is on the door, and she just says "oh yeah, but I thought you weren't here" and continues to start tidying up my room. I ask her to politely to leave, and she grabs my breakfast tray (which I haven't finished with) and storms out of the room.
*sigh*
What happened to good old-fashioned customer service?
