I saw the same thing (probably the same plane) at O'Hare on 11/11. The plane was parked at the next gate to mine and I had time to look carefully. It was definitely the UA paint job with the old colors in the stripe. The co-pilot did a walk around and had no reaction to the nose cone, so I know it is not only possible but safe. Wierd, but safe!
