According to Saver/*A Award chart, I can redeem a TPE/NRT award ticket for only 20K miles, but 40K miles for TPE/HKG (on TG). The flight time of TPE/NRT is around 3.5 hrs (1356 miles), and TPE/HKG is only about 1.5 hrs (~500 miles)! Considering UA even offers Reduced Awards for selected domestic flights (15K miles for flights < 700 miles), this UA/*A award policy does not seem to make much sense to me. Any thoughts on this?

Not willing to burn 40k miles on this TPE/HKG flight, I guess I'd probably purchase a r/t ticket ($250~$350) on TG, CX, CI, BR, etc airlines for one of my intra-Asia trips next year.
