I have no idea what is going on with that. Went through T3 fast track on Friday, joined the huge queue for passport checks, then some BAA official just pointed to the space at the side and said "just go on through" to people in general. Most of the people carried on queueing, taking their shoes off, and so on. I, along with a few others, did as the man said, and waltzed through to the duty free. Entirely open lane, no passport checks, shoe scanning or anything.

Seems a bit strange - maybe BAA only expects honest shoe bombers (as opposed to the rest of us, who don't expect them at all).
