Star Alliance Paper Ticket Reward - Change Disaster

Hello,

Has anyone run into a similar problem before? Any advise would be helpful - E-Mailing the Super Elite Department just results into a form letter response that they can't help me. Calling the Super Elite Desk results in ambiguous responses. This is what I wrote to the SE Desk which summarizes my plight:

On August 5th, 2007, I have purchased an Aeroplan Reward (Booking Ref# ?????) MUC-BKK-MUC on Thai Airways in Business Class, leaving to BKK on September 5th and returning October 4th. When I purchased the reward (which required me to call in for tax calculation), I was advised that changes to the ticket after travel commenced are only possible if there is availability and additional fees may become due.

I am now trying to change the return date to sometime in mid-October (or later) but am getting nowhere - here's what happened:

1. On September 12th or 13th (I was in Bangkok at that time), I called the Super Elite Desk requesting that my return date be changed to October 22nd. The Aeroplan representative told me that even though changes are possible and availability exists, he cannot process the change for me because I have a paper ticket. After asking who I should then contact, he said that I have to see an Air Canada ticketing agent. After explaining that I'm currently in Bangkok, he advised that there is no Aeroplan ticketing in that city and that I could get the change done either in London, UK or at various Airports (such as Vancouver) in Canada.

2. On September 15th, I flew from Bangkok to Victoria via Seoul and Vancouver in order to see an agent there (I could have flown directly to LAX - which was my original plan, but rescheduled my travels so that I can change my Aeroplan reward ticket in Canada). After landing in Victoria on September 16th, the agent at the Air Canada ticketing desk told me that she can do the change but needs me to call Aeroplan first to authorize this change.

3. On September 15th (from the Airport), I called the Super Elite Desk once more. This time, however, the agent told me that changes are NOT AT ALL possible for Star Alliance paper tickets. I resented to that fact.

4. On September 17th, I received a voice message from an Air Canada employee. The caller indicated that an agent at the Victoria Airport has put thru a change for my ticket (which was NEVER confirmed to me by that agent). The caller informed me that:

- My reservation for the 7th of October BKK-MUC in Business Class is now gone
- Aeroplan "put a change thru" for the 22nd of October in Economy class
- However, since changes are not allowed, I may not be able to board the flight on the 22nd

To summarize, I received three different stories about how I can change a Aeroplan Reward ticket:

1. Changes are possible but only if there is availability and I may have to pay a fee

2. Changes are possible but they can only be done thru an Air Canada ticketing office

3. Changes are never possible

What am I missing?

- Because of Aeroplan, instead of flying directly to Los Angeles, I left Bangkok a few days early and flew to Victoria instead (I'm heading to LAX tomorrow, see booking ref# ?????)

- When you sold me the ticket, you assured me that changes are possible but now all of the sudden changes are not possible anymore

- The agent at Victoria airport put a change thru she was not supposed to put thru and now I don't even have my original return in business class and instead have an economy return that I may not even be able to board!!??
