I have had a set of QC2's for a few years now. They work well. My biggest gripe is the build quality.
The first set failed with the plastic on the side of the slide mechanism failed. It snapped off and it just happens to regulate the metal band into the frame bit that adjusts for your head. I thought it was a fluke, so I sent it in to Bose and they were good enough to warranty the item. After waiting about 3 months for the new set arrive, it failed in the same way but on the opposite side. Since then I have them parked. Too much other gear in the bag and the size factor comes into play.
I have used the QC3's (provided by AA) and cant fault them either - I dont care for the recharge battery idea so that would stop me from buying the item. You can get an AA battery anywhere.
I currently travel with a set of Shure E3C's. A good all round set of earphones that I get a lot more use out of than just flying. Compact and sound great. I bought them in HKG as well - not the cheapest, but fairly priced.
As for sleeping onboard - stuff some ear plugs in and be done with it.
My 2 cents
